At Coastal Paving, we know paving projects come with plenty of questions. Whether you're a homeowner looking to reseal your driveway or a business owner planning a parking lot overhaul, you deserve clear answers. That’s why we’ve put together an FAQ to help you feel confident before, during, and after your project.
Here are a few of the most common questions we hear:
How long before I can drive on new asphalt?
We recommend waiting at least 24 hours — longer during hot weather. This helps the surface cure properly and prevents damage.
When should I sealcoat?
We suggest 6–12 months after your asphalt is installed and every 2–3 years after that to protect against water, sun, and oil damage.
What causes cracks or potholes?
Cracks and potholes are typically caused by water infiltration, heavy traffic, and freeze-thaw cycles — all common in Maine’s climate. Regular maintenance and crack filling can extend the life of your pavement.
How long will my asphalt last?
With proper care and maintenance, your asphalt surface can last 15–20 years or more!
